February

February is a month of transitions. It can be described as having one foot in winter and one in spring. Nightime temperatures average in the low 40s and daytime temps fluctuate between the high 50s and high 60s. Many plants begin to awake from their dormancy, bloom and leaf out. Most of the temperate fruits (peaches, plums, cherries, apples, apricotts...) begin their annual blooming. Other ornamental trees and shrubs (crabapples, azaleas, camellias..) bloom and show thier new sets of leaves.  Other February bloomers calla lilies, petunias, verbena and allysum.
