Welcome to Fresno California! We are located in the San Joaquin Valley with the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains to the east and the Coastal Range to the west. The Central Valley (composed by the San Joaquin and Sacramento Valleys) is an agricultural paradise and contains some of the richest farmland in the United States. There are roughly 400 miles of orchards and rows of crops, such as tomatoes, cantaloups and various melons, citrus trees, almonds, peaches, olives, apricotts, grapes and figs, just to name a few. On this site, I will go through a whole year in review of the different plants that i grow here in Fresno and the surrounding areas. Fresno is categorized as a USDA zone 9b and a Sunset zone 9. The climate is complex, and there are various microclimates that govern which plants succeed and which don't. Summers are long, dry and hot, usually exceeding the 100 degrees fahrenheit. Winters are short, mild and variable, with lows fluctuating between the low and high 30s. Our winter is usually from late November and lasts through late January, and is characterized by overcast days, thick fog and ocassional rains. Because of the mild winters we experience, we are able to grow various exotic and sub-tropical plants, and the damage caused by frost can be recovered during our long growing season.
